EMILY's List

Works with: Qualified, pro-choice women ready to wage and win campaigns for state and local offices.

States: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin

Mission: The dedicated Political Opportunity Program (POP) team hits the road every week to recruit, train, and support women candidates – knowing that a key reason women hesitate to run for office is because they simply haven't been asked. POP identifies tomorrow’s political leaders – and we ask! POP’s goal is a steady and sustainable increase of women in the political pipeline, where they gain the leadership and legislative skills necessary to be effective in their current offices and – if they wish – prepare for statewide or federal campaigns. Yes, we’re building a farm team, but by helping women win key races up and down the ballot – the legislators who write laws, the attorneys general who defend and enforce them, the secretaries of state who oversee their states’ elections – POP also helps put women in charge of the decisions that affect each of us, every day.

Mission: Running Start supports the young women who will shape tomorrow’s world. These young women will bring in new ideas to help solve old problems, and will raise issues unique to their lives that have otherwise been overlooked in politics. We founded Running Start to address the absence of equal representation in the halls of government. We continue to educate and inspire around these pillars of our mission: We need more women in political office, leadership positions come from experience & tenure, planting the seeds early encourages women to run, and education prepares young women to lead.

Running to Govern

Works with: We will recruit candidates who are fully committed to good politics and effective policy. A candidate will never be able to govern if they don’t win. Conversely they cannot govern effectively if they run a divisive campaign full of empty promises.

Mission: Running to Govern was founded to recruit, train, support, and hold accountable a new generation of elected leaders who are committed to effective and responsible governance. We are all-partisan and believe that there is nothing inherently wrong with politics or partisanship. What is wrong, however, is when politics and partisanship turn legislating and governing into a zero-sum game. Even if just a few far-sighted leaders are successful by taking a different path others will follow.

Website: http://runningtogovern.org/

Good to Know: Running to Govern focuses entirely on candidates who have already declared their candidacy. Training is provided through long term mentorships with Running to Govern advisers.
